Showjumping & livery

Showjumping is a test of balance, control, daring, power, skill and speed!

Show jumping is a global sport and year round sport. Three and four day international shows providing the highest level of competition and excellent hospitality take place every week. The Longines FEI Nation’s Cup series takes place every year and involves every show jumping nation. The European Championships take place every other year, the World Championships every four years and the Olympics every four years.

To win at show jumping requires a horse that is a careful, brave and talented athlete, and a rider who is also brave and talented. The relationship between horse and rider needs be such that the horse trusts the rider to make good decisions and the rider also has total trust in the horse.

The basis for such a relationship starts when horses begin their show jumping careers at four or five years of age, jumping in training classes with fences around 1m. Horses will normally be about 10 years of age before they reach the highest (Championship/Grand Prix) level have to jump 1.60m in the first round and 1.70 in a jump-off. Several riders may be involved in a horse’s development, each using their special talents at producing horses at different stages in their life.

Breen Equestrian has world class facilities and is based at the world famous All England Show Jumping Course at Hickstead. The facilities at Breen Equestrian include a 30 x 60 indoor school, a 8 horse covered horse walker, over 40 stables, several all weather arenas with the best surfaces, fantastic hacking in the Sussex countryside, and all year turn-out available, all in the stable yard which has produced champions such as Beethoven, Buddy Bunn, Carmena Z, Balloon, Cos I Can, Farao van’t Vennehof, Ominerale Courcelle, Golden Hawk and Z7 Ipswich to name just a few.

All our in-house riders have international experience and have very consistent records in national competitions. They all have extensive experience in producing horses and the operation is overseen by both Shane and Chloe ensuring that all horses in our care are always looked after and produced in the same way as our stable stars.

There are two international shows and one national show at Hickstead, and the local area is very well served for good quality competitions.

In spite of his busy competition commitments Shane is available every week to oversee the training of both horses and riders.

We believe that Breen Equestrian is able to provide the best expertise and facilities to either produce your horse, to compete him for you or to prepare him for sale.

Our Owners

It would be virtually impossible to run a team of International horses without our very loyal and generous owners. We are immensely grateful that they put their faith in Breen Equestrian’s ability to produce and care for their horses to the highest level possible.

We like to view the ownership of a horse with top class potential as an investment opportunity. Our contacts, and the our experience enable us to source talented young horses from all over Europe. Shane and the team at Breen Equestrian are then able to nurture and showcase the ability of these horses in order to maximise the return when they are sold on.

We are always pleased to see our owners, either to watch their horses work at home, to watch them at national shows or to travel with us to international shows. The top shows both in England and Europe provide excellent hospitality and a good party atmosphere.
