From Birmingham to Italy to Norway to Riyadh, The Breen Team Conquered All!

Posted on November 24, 2023

The whole of The Breen Team have begun their winter season how they mean to go on – with an incredible Horse Of The Year Show for Shane, Katie picking up numerous placings in CSI2* & 3* classes including the 2* GP and a memorable tour in Italy for Darcy. It’s certainly been a successful couple of months!

Katie headed to The WBFSH Studbooks Jumping Global Champions Trophy held in Valkenswaard, having been selected to compete with two of our up and coming stars. Z7 Pink Panther (Cuick Star Kervec x Obos Quality) didn’t touch a pole all week in the 5YO classes, helping the AES Studbook to a bronze medal! BE Alacantara (Colmar x Contact Me), showed her class in competitive 7 year-old classes throughout the week, stepping up the levels with ease.

The indoor season began for Shane at the famous CSI3* Horse Of The Year Show. HOYS is always a special show, with a huge atmosphere and support from the crowd –  it really is a show like no other! Haya kicked off with a clear in the CSI3* Grandstand Welcome Stakes and later in the week placed 5th in the 1,60 accumulator. Shane and Cato Boy showcased excellent sport when they cleared 1,85 in the HOYS six bar to share the win with legend and friend, John Whitaker. Cato Boy took his 6 bar debut with ease! Also bringing home a 6th in the 1,55, we are sure this pair have many more to come. Our star of the show, homebred Scarteen, was rightfully crowned The Speed Horse Of The Year, winning the class in a fast and furious jump off! Also placing 6th in The Stoneleigh Stakes, we couldn’t be prouder of this horses recent performances, he truly is our King Of Speed!

Whilst Shanes team travelled back home to rest and recuperate before the journey to Norway, Katie & Darcy headed to Italy for the next three weeks.

The tour included more wins than we can count for Darcy in the CSIP classes with One Saharah and Pixie, Darcy and her ponies jumped a total of 15 out of 18 clear rounds throughout the show. Katie’s team of young guns, 7 year olds BE Alcantara and Geniale Star Kervec took over the CSI1*YH classes! BE Alacantara showed her class once again, winning twice and jumping into multiple third and fifth places, adding many more rosettes to her ever growing collection. Geniale Star Kervec, placed in the top ten 7 times out of 9 rounds. We are so lucky to have these two impressive young horses in our stables and cannot wait to see their careers develop!

Darcy and Kunis picked up multiple placings in the CSI1* and CSI2* classes including a 1st, 2nd and 5th in the CSI1* 1,20s and a 3rd place in the CSI1* 1,15.

As for Katie’s team of older horses, Z7 Regal Don, showed us that consistency is key,  jumping an abundance of clear rounds and placings in the CSI2*/3* 1,35s and 1,40s including a 2nd, two 4ths and two 5th places.

Meanwhile, Shane and Cuick Star Kervec took Oslo CSI5* World Cup head on, placing a brilliant 5th place. Moving onto the next show on the calendar, they then headed to Helsinki CSI5*-W. Speedy Scarteen took the win in the 5* 1,45 speed class and ‘Cuick’, clearly on a roll, placed a brilliant 3rd in the 5* Grand Prix!

Geniale Star Kervec, full sister to ‘Cuick Star Kervec’, over in San Giovanni, did not want to be outdone by her big brother, finishing the tour with a 2nd place in the 7 year-old final. ‘Geniale’ and Katie placed in the top ten 7 times out of 9 rounds. Katie and Cato Boy ensured that they had a tour to remember too, rounding off with a 4th place in the CSI2* 1,45 Grand Prix. Another partnership that has exceeded all expectations.

Ending the tour on a high, Darcy and One Saharah won the CSIP Grand Prix and Darcy also

placed 2nd in the CSI2* 1,30 on Kunis. We are so proud of Darcy’s progress in the last year, well done Darcy!

Back in the UK, the rest of the Mini Breen Team were out in full force at SouthView Home Pony Show, jumping clear rounds on their ponies in the mini teams – well done Dougie and Wolfie!

Sooner than we knew it, it was time to head to one of the last LGCT of the season, in Saudi Arabia, with the Rome Gladiators team. Haya jumped a brilliant clear to move The Rome Gladiators up to the second round on a score of 0, aiding the team to finish a respectable 5th place.

Breen Equestrian now looks forward to gearing up for our annual trip to the UAE at the beginning of December. As always, these fantastic results could not be achieved without every single one of our sponsors and supporters. We are so grateful to each and everyone of you and we cannot wait to see what the new year brings!
