CSIO 3* Nations Cup in Vilamoura

November 23, 00:00

It was all systems go for the Breen team, with a week full of jumping, team training, and travelling horses safely back to Hickstead.

Tuesday saw Vilamoura Equestrian Centre host their first Nations Cup event, in which Shane joined his team mates Michael Duffy, David Simpson, Richard Howley & Mikey Pender in jumping to equal 3rd place for Team Ireland.

It wasn’t all about this debut event for the team, as Shane, Jack and Georgia jumped another 6 horses between them, each of them recording a duo of clear rounds. Shane set the bar with two beautiful rounds in the 3* 1.30 and 1.40 on Old Lodge’s Haya, and Carmel Ryan’s Compelling Z respectfully. Georgia brought her clear rounds home with Quintella in the 3* 1.40 and Evita in the 3* 1.30 for Old Lodge Stud, and Jack finished off with a clear on KBS Major Player (owned by the Kennedy brothers), and a clear and 7th place with Katie Speller’s Grenada.

Not content with their bevy of clear rounds on the Tuesday, the team jumped their heart out on Thursday to come home with 4 further placings, including a win for Georgia & Quintella in the 3* 1.30m.

While the team was finishing off their time in Vilamoura, a special mention must go to Ryan, for travelling back with the first returning group of horses, who are now safely tucked up in their stables, ready for a winter at Hickstead.

A massive thank you to the whole Breen team, and to Vilamoura for playing host the team for 7 weeks and putting on a great show!
