HSI Showjumping Mastes

In a boost for the sport of showjumping during a difficult year, Emerald Equestrian Centre in Kildare played host to the inaugural Horse Sport Ireland Showjumping Masters on December 18th.

Showcasing some of the country’s best horses and riders including Denis Lynch, Michael Duffy, Richard Howley and Dermot Lennon as well as others invited from around the world, the event encompassed just two competitive classes – the warm up Speed and the feature Grand Prix.

It was too big a draw for Team Breen to refuse, with Shane, Jack and Georgia as well as Trevor Breen lining up for €23,000 showdown.

The warm up class brought a spectacle - and results - for the team, Shane and Compelling Z collecting an easy clear while Jack on board his own Essenar High Hopes went to battle with Trevor and Breen Equestrian’s new addition Kilbarron Ruewith the boys ending up in 3rd and 4th place respectively. But it was Ladies Day, with Georgia and Old Lodge owned mare Evita taking a speedy win.

It was another good showing for the team as the same combinations took on the Grand Prix. While Georgia and Trevor had just one down in the first round, David Simpson aboard his rising star and Breen co-owned Foudre F went clear through the first round to finish in an eventual 8th spot.

However, it was Irish bred Compelling Z who was the hero of the night. With a well-executed gallop to the last, Shane and the stallion by Chellano Z, pipped former world champion Dermott Lennon by just over a second to take victory and the spoils - a brand new Overlander two horse lorry.
